Received my first infected e-mail ever today! Update: Apparently it's making its rounds on the .edu circuit.

Apparently it's floating around on my university's network. All you have to do is click (or right-click, as I was doing to delete it) on the e-mail and a download dialog box comes up.

It is titled "A WinXP Patch." Fortunately for me, I don't have XP so I don't need it!

Anyway, just a heads up. If it's floating around on a university network it might be spreading, but then for all I know it's really old.

Yeah, we got it here too on our campus. It's going around.

W32.ez or eml.ez or something or the other.

No idea. I can't really examine it myself either, because when I choose 'cancel' so as to not save/run it, Outlook Express likes to crash. :p

Question:

I'm pretty sure I had the needed critical updates to avoid getting infected, but how can I be positive?

It brought up the "Open from this location" and "Save to a Disk" dialog box (just from clicking on the e-mail, not any attachment). I, of course, chose cancel. Does that mean I'm safe or not? ;)
