This is freakin' ridiculous, it's bad enough that I get 20 SPAM e-mails a day to my primary e-mail, 15 a day to my Yahoo account, 10 pieces of snail mail SPAM a week AND telemarketers.

Now I am getting SPAM via my cell phone, %$#@!

Was it regarding WebHosting :p?

Seriously, can't you block those through your phone, or call your Service Provider and have THEM do something?

LOL No it wasn't regarding web hosting, I already get at least 2 SPAM e-mails a week from Globat.com or something like that.

Besides I already have enough web hosting to host Amazon.com (I wish).

Maybe I could contact T-Mobile and see (if) they can do anything.

One more reason I'm glad that I don't have a cellphone. I wouldn't mind getting rid of my phone at work here too if the opportunity presented itself. :D

Whether it was co-incidence or not, I never got 'any' till I registered my phone with Vodafone about 2 years ago. I read all the small print, made sure all the boxes allowing them to pass details on were unchecked etc. Now I get about 3/4 a month.

If I ever got a spam through my phone.
I would immediatly call the company and cancel service.

MacGaven - Nope I have a Nokia 3390, lusting after the new Nokia model which has an FM tuner built in. Unfortunately T-Mobile's selection of cell phones SUCK!

cherrytwist - Well tell your sister to quit callin' me and I'll stop callin' her :D

RossMAN,

Have you ever given your phone number out to a T-Mobile representative when shopping for accessories/phones at a T-Mobile store?

I know that they will send you spam telling you to come back to the store and buy stuff, this happened to me when I bought a $2.00 accessory in Portland, OR and then I went home and I started getting SMS, E-mail, and Phone Messages from them.

Nope, all I've ever done is made payments by check at T-Mobile stores.

Now I just make payments online at T-Mobile.com because it's quick, easy and I earn miles using my Alaska Airlines/BOFA cc.

I *think* the cell phone spammers use a type of "wardialer" for email addresses. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if your provider supports it, you can email your phone by sending an email to [yournumberhere]@[yourcellprovider].com

All spammers have to do is bulk mail out to every number they carry. With the massive proliferation of cell phone numbers, they probably hit 60% of the time.

I think its legal too, as legal as spam is (because it's a list of numbers, and not dialing each one of them).

I would call T-mobile and flip out, especially if you get charged for mobile email.

I think you're right, and yes T-Mobile cell phones can receive e-mail at 10digitphone@tmomail.net (something like that).

So they just need a random number generator and they can spam by the millions with a few clicks of the mouse :(

Hey Rossman, was it for cheap tickets to Hawaii or something? Everyone in my family and everyone at my dad's business got one of those a week or two ago.

EDIT: Ours came as an SMS text message, not email.

Can you view the full headers on the email with your phone? Or maybe forward it to a pc-checkable address? If they're located in the US and didn't use an open relay, T-mobile may be interested in that info. They might pull an AOL/TimeWarner and sue the spammer for wasting their customers time.

I can't view full e-mail headers, I MIGHT be able to forward it to a regular e-mail account.

Unless I start getting more than 5 a week I won't make a huge fuss about it.

The way I found out my phone even supported e-mail was that it got spammed (so obviously I hadn't given the address out to anybody). The interesting thing was that pretty much everyone in our building with a cellphone got spam that week with a link that you can highlight & hit yes on the phone to subscribe to "terrorism alert info".
