received a check from car insurance company

Somebody hit my car in a car accident and the other party's insurance company just sent me a check. The compensate amount is roughly fair. The question is, does this mean that the claim is resolved after I cash the check? I received nothing else from the insurance company but only a check in an envelop.

they normally have you sign off when the claim is "settled", i would take a check with no paperwork as a starting point

Pick up the phone and call the insurance company and see what the check is paying for.

Great advice - a;so, you can directly get paid for what we call "loss of use" (rental)
Of course, if you're getting your car repaired, get the estimate that they based your check off of - otherwise the shop may charge more.

My old 1991 Buick Regal got dented and the at-fault party's insurance company mailed me a check for a little over a thousand dollars for the damage. I never asked for a penny more and I felt kind of bad because I didn't care about the small dent and instead bought a guitar amp with it. The company said I was entitled to the money and didn't care what I did with it...so maybe I shouldn't feel so bad.
