Received a check from a class action lawsuit...

Hmm, I'm not sure if we got hit with any fees like this. I suspect not but I'll tell my wife about it to see if we get a check in the mail.

How much was the payment to you?

We got one at our house for someone who doesn't live there anymore. Tossed it but it was a reasonable amount.

Awesome. Banks are no longer allowed to sequence transactions highest to lowest? That always seemed shady as fuck.

Looks like California customers only. Must be a state law. 🙁

Read the agreement you are accepting by cashing the check. If it is acceptable, go for it. If not, then don't. With one automobile settlement check I received, the agreement was to waive all future claims for any problem with the vehicle, not just the specific problem the suit involved. I declined to cash the $39 check.

There was no agreement included with the check. In fact, there wasn't even a cover letter or anything. Just a 1 page document that says "Enclosed please find a check in the amount of $200+ representing payment in full of your portion of the judgment entered in the class action lawsuit..." along with the check that you rip off on the bottom. The website doesn't look like it has an agreement anywhere, but there is a link for more info. I don't bank with WF anymore so I guess what happens after I cash it doesn't really matter much. Haven't used WF in almost a decade I think.

I just received one for $50 bucks as a settlement for DRAM price fixing back in 1998-2002 time frame. My State AG was so proud to have gotten that for me. I believe he is running for governor here in the next cycle.

I got a check a couple of days ago for $150 for the DRAM suit. I was SHOCKED to get that much. I expected, if I got anything, I'd get $6.39 plus a coupon for 10% off my next visit to CompUSA or something.

Cool stories. Only thing I've ever gotten is a discount coupon to buy something from the company that just admitted ripping me off.

I just got a DRAM settlement check a few days ago. I think it was about $25.

I had no idea about. It's a decent chunk of change, and I'm supposed to cash it within 90 days. It looks legit. Lawsuit is Gutierrez v. Wells Fargo Bank, N. A. I haven't had a chance to look up the case yet, but curious what could happen if it's bunk. Any ideas?

Edit: Guess it's legit: https://eclaim.kccllc.net/caclaimforms/wfg/home.aspx

Score!
Being able to purchase 2 whoppers and fries and drinks for $10.00 is not a score!!!

IIRC, I received something like $1,000 for the Debeers diamond settlement.

What amazes me though is that they never asked for any verification of how much I spent.

I wonder how many people just made up an amount and got paid.

The oddball class action actually can give out a decent amount of money. Usually they're jokes but guess this comes to show they are still worth looking into.

I can't help but wonder how many people do lie though...

Like the big DRAM one about a year ago, I told my parents they should apply as they bought the computer around that time, but I can't say I've bought anything that was affected so did not apply.

Last one of these I received was something related to light-bulbs & amounted to $5.45. Better then nothing I suppose.

Hopefully my DRAM one will be a bit larger if/when it comes.

Most banks process debits from highest to lowest in an attempt to generate as many separate overdraft fees as possible. Wells Fargo got hit for lying that they sequenced them that way, not for the practice itself.

Oooh pretty sure I put my name in the hat for that one. Haven't gotten a check yet, though. I got like $270 a few years ago for an LCD price gouging settlement of yesteryear.

Nice.

I might get something as well from a class action: A ruling was made against Walmart recently, something to do with them screwing people out of wages over paid break periods. I got notification of that about a week ago. It doesn't say what the payout would be though.

You tossed out someone's mail?

With a check enclosed?

Jesus wept.

Don't be a jackass; write "return to sender" or "not at this address" and drop it back in the outgoing mail.
