Reccommend a new Noprthbridge fan for me...

Basically my fan on my NF7 stopped spinning and its been stopped for like a week now and i totally forgot about it until Windows totally crashed and I couldnt even boot into it anymore (may not have anything to do with), it just kept restarting before the XP load screen. Would always show a different clock speed at startup too. Really messed up. Anyway I reformated and now things seem ok, however I need to replace that fan asap...where can I get a replacement? I suppose I could just RMA the board, but cant I just get the fan from newegg or something?

I also tried removing the fan by pressing the white pegs down on either side and it was a pain. Felt like it was stuck or something..

Looking to get something from Newegg maybe...any ideas?
 
If the mobo is in warranty, just call Abit and ask about it. If you need something faster than Abit is likely to respond, either newegg or svc.com probably have something that would work. I would replace it with a Zalman passive heatsink if it were mine - then I wouldn't have to worry about it any more.

Im thinking of switching to a Zalman before the my NB fan breaks. Although im not sure how hard it is to remove ABIT's stock fan... IF they use crap thermal paste, i might be concerned with ripping the NB right out of the motherbaord - which would be very bad.
 
I had to replace my NB fan recently on my NF7-S also. I bought the Vantec Iceburg All Copper one. Link. Works great, and fits perfect. Dont get the PRO version, it will not fit.
 
I recently swapped my NF7-S northbridge hsf for a passive Zalman ZM-NB47J, I think the system temps are actually cooler than with the stock NB fan (though my cpu fan overhangs the SK7 heatsink a lot so the NB still gets a reasonable amount of airflow near it).

I'd suggest either get Abit to send a replacement if you want to maintain warranty, else stick a Zalman ZM-NB47J on there. If you want really good cooling go for a Thermalright NB-1 plus a fan - not sure what size fan's fit it, apparently a 45x45mm loud (35dba) Delta is the "stock" fan, probably some places sell the 'sink with that fan and others just the 'sink, I'd imagine there'd be clips for 40 and maybe 50mm fans that are 10mm thick.

Taking off the stock NB hsf was fairly easy, though you have to get access to the rear of the board so most likely you'll have to largely take apart and rebuild your PC. Just use pliers to squeeze the back of the clips together, then push them through. The 'sink was still on pretty firmly, I dont think they used any adhesive but there's some suction because they used a lot of paste. just rotate it back and forth firmly but slowly and carefully, and it will come off with no danger to the chip.
 
go for a quality heatsink instead, quieter and just as cool. i remember someone posted temps with passive and active in a thread, and the diff was neglegible.
