it's not so much the right alarm, as the right install. most alarms are about the same, plus or minus certain features you may want to look into. making sure it's installed properly is the key, hide the brain well and all that good stuff.

clifford and viper are pretty much the top guys, get anything from them and you should be set.

edit:
ran a search and found this :)

Warning! Don't be fooled with those useless, annoying car alarms and lo-jacks! They are total rip-offs!
Think about it ... when car alarms go off, people will just think that it's a false alarm since they oftentimes go off even if no one is stealing the car. Right? And, if someone is really stealing the car, all they got to do is find the wiring of the alarm, and simply cut it!
Now, about the lo-jacks ... my father had one on his Lexus. It got stolen, and the thieves were somehow able to find it; therefore, the police never recovered the car.
What I recommend is the "Unbrakeable AutoLock."
This is not one of those stupid clubs that you put on the steering wheel. (All steering wheels are made of thin metal and foam because they are designed to bend out of the driver's way in case of car accident. A thief can easily cut the steering wheel using a saw or bolt cutter, removing the club and stealing the vehicle.)
This incredible invention is a club, but you attach it to the brake pedal, one of the hardest parts of the car because it is made of thick solid steel. It's lock is pick-proof and bullet-proof! You can NOT cut and/or saw the brake pedal and the club itself.
I referred this great product to my friend, and he was so thankful that I did! He had to park his car at the subway's parking lot overnight. Someone did try to steal his car. They smashed the driver's side window to get in; however, they must have gave up in the process because when my friend came back, he found the car door still slightly open. I mean, isn't it better to replace a window than having the car reported stolen and finding out that it has already been stripped of its parts?!?! I surely think so!
So, check out AutoLock's website for more information, and say goodbye to those stupid, useless and expensive car alarms and lo-jacks.
Pass this around to your family and friends in order to stop the many car thefts in our nation.

I haev a Clifford G4 alarm and the range of features it has is simply amazing.

One of the neat ones is the "anti carjacking" feature.

Basically if you're driving, stop and get out of the car wtih the engine running, you have to press a 3-digit code on the panel (located right next to the steering wheel) before you start driving again or it will assume you're being carjacked and let you drive for 1/4 mile before turning the car off.
I'll admit it's dangerous if you're forgetful but it's still a great feature.

those autolock club devices are a pain in the ass, after a while you're just going to stop putting it on. "oh, i'll just be in safeway for 5 minutes. oh, i'll just grab a slice of pizza and be out in 10..."

to elaborate on the viper theft guarantee, they pay the deductable on your insurance if your viper-equipped car is stolen up to $2500 i believe, the numbers vary.

Hmmm....quiksilver's very first post is a long-ass plug for AutoLock. Yer not a rep or anything are you?;)

What about a starving pit-bull left inside while you're not in the car? I would sure as hell find another one to jack if that were the case...

I would get a Clifford.

quiksilver205,

First off cutting the steering wheel to get stuff like the club is a time waster. Just smack it with a 5 pound sldge and the lock is gone. Secondly, on my car an Autolock is about a 30 second process to remove.
