70-72 Chevy are classic already and command a premium when in decent shape. I bought one '70 traded 28 pieeces of 2X8 lumber. Best truck I never bought...drove it a couple hundred thou more, and sold it for $2000 w new paint!

For real HD approach, cant go wrong with the 3/4 ton full-floating rear axle....and they had beefier springs, frame, and brakes.

3/4 and 1 ton models will command more because their parts are demanded in other places, offroading, specifically.

Old Dodge with a 318 or a slant 6
If you need better gas mileage, an old Dakota with the 3.9

These are all easy to work on and the engines are indestructible.
