My girlfriend and I are having about 25 people come over to her place tonight for a very formal holiday party. I would like a good beer that isn't too hoppy. Getting drunk is the goal, but I don't want to just get shitfaced instantly. Going to start drinking at about 5:00pm. Looking for a lighter beer -- not a fan of dark beers. Mostly just looking for something that tastes good.

My friend reccomended me Heineken, Corona, etc ... I might get those, but if you have anything better, or something you think I should try, then please post. We have a beer store here with a LOT of variety, so even if its obscure, we might have it.

Thanks!

The ladies will love the Corona with a lime slice, guaranteed.

This isn't a beer, but get Babycham. It's the happiest drink in the world. :) It is a nice crisp cider with low alcohol and great taste.

Is it sugary? I like Woodchuck but I feel sick after drinking like three of those.

For 25 people, why don't you get a variety of beers and let people choose their favorites?

We considered getting a keg of champagne, but that would have cost like $20 a person. Probably would have rocked though. A few of my friends are bringing champagne.

Go to Costco and get the Sam Adam's holiday variety pack. Some of them are interesting so I'm not sure if all will like them. If not, then mosh had it correct - Corona is a mass favorite

It is definitely not sugary like Woodchuck, it has a much drier taste. It is great very cold and most girls (including me) really like it.

This sounds interesting, I am going to look into this...! I'm writing down all of your suggestions in my phone so I can check them out later. I love trying new beers! I'll probably end up buying all of them

If you are down south - Red Brick Ale

If you are west of the Rockies - Moose Drool out of Missoula, MT

Hef's, pilsners and their ilk are usually fairly universally accepted. Sam Adams Winter Lager, Stella, Newcastle, Widmers/Pyramid, Hoegaarden, and any pale ale are usually pretty good for those who aren't inclined towards the dark stuff.

He said not too hoppy. I suggest something like Mothership Whit from New Belgium. It's a wonderful, light and tasty belgian style wheat beer. Big hit with the ladies :)

Sleemans Honey Brown is another nice choice if you can find it.

Sleemans beer gives you the dreaded Sleemans sliders. :(
