I particularly like historical fiction, but I'm not limited to it. Some books I've read so you know my tastes...

Ender's Game
Ender's Shadow
Thought these were great... didn't know if the rest were worth reading, mainly because I particularly the strategy/planning aspect which I'm not sure the rest have.

Killer Angels/Gods and Generals/Last Full Measure
Loved these as well. Loved the method of storytelling. Though I don't think I want to read another Civil War book for a while.

1984
I couldn't get past what page 30 w/o falling asleep? I know this is supposed to be highly acclaimed but damn I just couldn't get hooked.

Hobbit/Lord of The Rings
Hobbit was somewhat boring till the end. Lord of the Rings was alright... kinda boring at times. Don't want another Tolkien LOTR book.

I've read a lot of the stand John Grisham books (they're pretty good but all the same.. nothing great but nothing bad either), some Michael Crichton (eh, not too interested in the subject usually.. did love the JP novels though.) , and Tom Clancy stuff (pretty good, but not very into modern warfare.) Not too interested in feminist/philosophical/etc. type of books (or the types you might expect to read in high school/college).

Particularly looking at a Napoleon book? I dunno, just give me reccomendations.

As for book suggestions

Neuromancer - William Gibson
Band of Brothers - Stephen Ambrose
The Forgotten Soldier - Sajer
Shogun - James Clavell

This isn't what you're looking for but go get Touching The Void by Joe Simpson. Mountain climber who had to crawl seven miles down the side of a mountain with his lower leg jammed through his knee. Crazy story. It's going to be made into a movie soon I hear.

You should really give 1984 another shot. It may not have that initial draw, but the effect it'll leave you with is very compelling.

Which reminds me I read "Into Thin Air". That book was pretty good as well. Similar topic though, so I think imma look for a change.

Killer Angels was great! It's a shame if you don't finish the trilogy because Killer Angels really leaves you to read till the finish. I particularly liked The Last Full Measure most mainly because I loved reading Grant and Lee go at it. Amazing.

And trust me I've tried readin 1984 multiple times. At least 5 serious attempt because I know a lot of books get better as they go on, but daaaaam I just can't do it. I don't know why.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I tried reading A Clockwork Orange, but I just couldn't get through it. I should really see the movie some time...

Or any other Chuck Palahniuk novel. Survivor, Choke, Lulluby, Invisible Monsters...

I'd be able to vouch for Fight Club but I'm not sure about Choke. So far I'm like 130 pages into and it's really wierd and not overly enjoyable like Fight Club was.

The movie SUCKS! Some will agree with me. Others will flame me to death for saying so. *shrugs* All I know is I watched about half an hour of it before I just couldn't take it anymore. I tried to give it a fair chance but it's just idiotic.

Do they have the crazy English-Russian blended language in the movie too? That's why the book was so hard to read. Hardly a "horrorshow" way of writing a novel.

You should try Survivor. I personally think it's his best work.

P.S. Keep reading...his stories always have a twist. ;)

I'd like to write a long post on how stupid you are, but let's just imagine I flamed you to death instead, ok?

*me flaming you to death*

I can't even remember. I watched part of it about 4 years or so ago and I've spent the time since trying to purge it from my memory :p The only thing I remember is one dude chasing another dude around with a giant (by which I mean 2-3 feet long) penis

Oh, and thanks for being gentle datalink7 :p

I don't read hardcover, so I'm going to wait until it comes out on paperback. I have enough crap to read right now anyway. ;)

Speaks the Nightbird by Rober R. McCammon

"Set in 1699 in Fount Royal, a coastal settlement in the colonial Carolinas, this latest unfolds the adventures of magistrate Isaac Woodward and his assistant, Matthew Corbett, who have been summoned to the struggling town to adjudicate in the trial of Rachel Howarth, a young widow accused of deviltry that is blamed for murders, wretched weather and other calamities driving settlers away. Though town leaders press for swift execution, Matthew is persuaded by Rachel's dignity and fortitude that she's innocent."

Its worth reading just for the medical detail he goes into. The paperback version is spilt into two books so if you can you might as well get it in hardback.

The Jackal of Nar by John Marco. It's sort of war fantasy...much different from tolkien and it's fantasy so not bland modern war stuff. This thing had me from page 1, and it's part of a series so there are a few more if you dig it.

You mountaineers might like "To Touch the Top of the World" by Erik Weihenmayer, the autobiography of a mountain climber who's climbed the highest mountain on each of the seven continents.

By the way, he's blind.
