I need to implent a new backup solution capable of backing up a file/mail server w/ about 100 GB of data on it.

are there any tape drives under $1000 out there that could do it?

I really don't want to do removable hard drives, cause I know thats what people will say.

Uhh. off the top of my head, RAID 0? Or do you need a removeable backup? Maybe you can backup onto another PC over the network.

OR This about $320 at newegg.
And 3x of These About $45 a pop at Newegg.

The tapes are really 20GB but say they can compress 40GB on there. Is that what your looking for or just one big 100GB Tape drive?

well raid 1 is mirrored disks but that's not a backup solution.
I actually did think about building a small raid 1 linux box to just back everything up to but that's not good for taking off site.

I would get removable drive carriages and go RAID5 for great data security. For further security you would always back up to DVD-Rs.

Even easier dont run raid, just have 2 removable drives and back up when you need to.

I run raid 5 right now. 3x18GB scsi 10k rpm, soon to add 3x 36GB in another raid 5 array giving me about 100 GB to backup
