I'm not sure I remember or ever knew what a CD with dynamic range sounded like. Does anyone have some examples I can pic up? Especially if I can get a good version and one compressed for loudness.
For those who don't know what I'm talking about you can see this http://www.cdmasteringservices.com/dynamicdeath.htm for a simple explanation. The wave forms make the issue pretty obvious.

Try any orchestra/classical music.

I tend to take note of peak level when ripping with EAC, the ones I can think of right off the top of my head (out of my collection) are old Metallica. Their peak values are often less than 100%.

I just grabbed a wav form viewer & opened up Ride the Lightning, I don't see any flagrant clipping.

Speaking of which, I remember ripping Megadeth CDs not too long ago and checking out the peak level - EVERY SINGLE SONG was 98.5%. I don't know much about peak levels/dynamic range, but I assume this is a bad thing?

Simply looking at the peak level doesn't tell you anything. A recording can have its range intact and have peaks at 100, 99, 98, whatever. What matters is if the troughs are bumped up to the max too, compressing everything. See the link in the OP for wave pictures that will explain what I mean.

Not necessarily. You'd have to open it up & look at the waveform to see for sure. If you look at the original link that was posted the Willie Nelson example would be OK, whereas the Ricky Martin example definitely would not be.
