I need a new stereo receiver, it'll be hooked up to a modded X-Box (btw, anyone have any good tutorials on upgrading the hard drive and installing XBMC?), DVD player, CD changer, maybe computer...?

Best bang for the buck stereo receiver, maybe in the $300 to $750 range?

Do you need a tuner? Do you need dolby digital (I assume not)?

Look into integrated amps.

I actually have a five channel amp (or rather, I'm building one) and a set of five speakers (or rather, I'm building them too :p)

DVD players can output up to 7 channels; why do you want a stereo receiver?

In his price range and buidling a 5 channel amp he needs something to fill two channels and possible enjoy music.

OP - you can get a very nice integrated for that price. Used wouldn't be a bad idea.

Maybe post what you're really looking for and what you have to work with.

I personally like Onkyo systems and this one is pretty much their best (unless you need analog -> HDMI upconversion)

I've had an Onkyo reciever for the past 5 years, paid about $500 at the time, and the thing still sounds like SEX. I use it for audio mixing. Sounds good with a pair of studio monitors. You can ABSOLUTELY tell the difference between it and a $300 Sony receiver I also have. The difference is night and day.

I second it.
