reccomend a FPS game for my laptop :)

I want first person shooter just to have fun with.

I have an Thinkpad T42 1.7GHz Pentium M 735, 1.5GB of ram. ATI X300 video card.

I haven't played in a while, but I used to like UT 2004, and RTCW.

Anybody have any ideas? Would my laptop play any HALO version?

Half Life? Morrowind? There are a lot of UT2K4 mods out there that totally change the game, so that might be worth looking into.
 
Deus Ex and Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines (uses the HL2 engine... not sure how it would look / perform on that video chip....)


Both are on steam and they are my favorite FPSers

Eh?

Anyway, Half-life is a great single player FPS, while counterstrike is a great multiplayer FPS, although I haven't played CS in a while so I don't know how fun it is now.

I'm not sure I'd describe either of those as an FPS (but they're both good games)
 
Soldier of Fortune II...not a deep game, but very fun. The Operative: No One Lives Forever. No One Lives Forever 2...both very fun games. Jedi Knight II and Jedi Academy....the FPS experience isn't so great, but when you get the Light Sabers the fun begins. Call of Duty GOTYE this is one of the best FPS games I have ever played...I absolutely loved it. Halo 1 is pretty good when you are outdoors, but the indoor environments are exactly the same every time you turn a corner and it gets boring. Splinter Cell and Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow are third person...as are Max Payne and Max Payne 2 and Hitman 2 Silent Assassin...but I loved all of these games.

All of these games play well on my P4 1.9Ghz 256MB RDRAM Geforce 3 Ti 200...so I am sure they would run fine on yours.

I used to play Halo on my laptop (Multiplayer mainly), which has almost identical specs to yours with no problems at all. Just need to turn the resolution down a bit.

Half-life 2 and CS:S both work as well.

Red Orchestra is the most immersive that I've played. There is no single player, so it's strictly multiplayer, but I've actually found myself ducking while being shot at by an MG42.

Haven't played "The Masquerade", but it's got better plot development than Deus Ex IMO, and equivalent dialogue



You do get a lot of interaction with external entities, but it's more like HL2 in that regard. (Most of the entities you'll have contact with are either communicating via transmission or trying to kill you, you meet very few living friendlies in person). However, there are audio logs scattered throughout the game that let you piece together the plot as you go along. It's a really awesome effect.

The atmosphere is also incredibly immersive. Do not play this game alone in a Dark Room 🙂

Also, don't be fooled by the HL2 comment. While there are fewer opportunities for "side-missions", it's not closed in by any means.

SS2 has an excellent story but it doesn't really compare to the depth and detail of Deus Ex's plot. There is no two-way dialogue at all, although that arguably suits the style of the story better.
