Hi, ...
building a cheap computer from a variety of cannibalized parts for a friend. ...unfortunately we don't have an ATX case.

We're looking for a cheap case+power supply combo which can handle the load of an AMD processor (anything from a duron 1+ GHz to an XP1600 ...possibly teamed up with an ECS K7S6A or some other value board).

i tend to think a 350W PSU is a better investment than a 300W PSU, ..but what i need recommendations on are specific brands / web-links on where to find a case/psu combo that has worked for YOU over a period of time. money is an object here so i'm looking to stay between $25 and $40.

thanks all

I bought this case from Directron for $26 (no power supply). They also sell some good quality, cheap power supplies there.

I tend not to skimp on power supplies, though. I have 2 Enermax 550's (although one has gone out on me after 2 years (the warranty period)), two Antec Tru550's, an Antec 350, an Antec 400 (although the fan is making noise on this one), an Antec 300, etc.

That evercase is good. I'd also recommend an Enlight 72xx case w/ a 300w PSU (the 250w ones work fine, but crap out in heavy gaming).

gee, ... thanks a lot, i guess have plenty of options to look at now,.. i concur that a 350W PS is not absolutely necessary, but perhaps would be desirable if i went for a more power hungry processor (say more than XP1600), ...otherwise, i might be able to get away with a GOOD quality 300W PS

thanks
