case is Antec P150, Gigabyte-965P-DS3, and retail E6600. (this is a build for someone, a non-gamer).

He will not be doing any overclocking & wants to minimize noise. Will the retail HSF be noisy? I don't mind spending up to about $50 for him.

(It's a biz app machine and needs to be super stable)

thanks

edit- will a zalman 9500 or 9700 fit?

My E6600's heatsinkfan seems quiet. If you go aftermarket, you can get a 120mm heatsink with a big slow fan.

People often recommend that ACF 7 but, I think the Ultra90 should yield lower temps. Im fairly sure ACF 7 cools worse than the ultra90.

Ive begun an anti scythe ninja campaign till they stop using the lga 775 stock clips on such a heavy hsf. The plastic clips seem to do ok with smaller and ligher coolers but mine really struggled and the lack of clearance around the motherboard since the thing is soo huge begs for something more substantial. I also have a zalman 9700 that was awesome when I got it a a year ago,but now the tunic and the newer 120 extreme thermalright seem to do a better job and are quieter.

ACF7 is the budget choice and will do 90 percent of what the pricier models do.

Yeah, I personally dont know why anyone would recommend a $65 heatsink though. Especially one that has a brother that is almost identical. The regular ultra 120 is like, around $40ish and cools pretty much identical. Some of you people get way to carried away with new stuff.
