Hi, I'm going external on my optical drive since I hardly ever use it, and so I have a free 5 1/4" bay on my Silverstone ML03. I could use a card reader, but what's out there that might be fun and useful? Single bay only, too bad, but then I'm a power miser too so it's probably just as well.

If you have any comments/recs for my new build, I'd love to hear them!

Thanks!

New Build:

Internal card readers are worse than internal ODD -inconvenient and subject to frequent changes in formats. The bay could be used for trayless drive swapping: single 3.5", or up to four 2.5", or even two 2.5" plus slim ODD.

Well, I had one before and found it really handy for my camera and MP3 player cards, but I see your point. Still, I'm just looking to see if there are any wow gadgets for that bay. I already have an external HDD docking station.

What would be great for me is a secondary display where I could show time, temps, weather, #emails, etc., but there doesn't seem to be much out there at 5 1/4" and dual bay are quite expensive. But that's an idea of what would be exciting for me to have there, just seeing if anyone has seen anything fun like that.

About the card reader, do you mean something like this...?

Internal card reader with built-in powered USB2 hub, 2x USB3 and ESATA...

Other then that your guess is as good as mine... :)

Yeah, that reader looks interesting but doesn't seem to be available over on this side of the world. And the readers that are aren't as nice and mostly 3 1/2". I could get an adapter I suppose.

The reservoir is a bit much for me, but who knows, maybe in the future.

Thanks!
