Rec?

The American film Quarantine is a remake of [Rec].

ITs basically your average zombie movie in shaky cam, dont know whats special about it

Well, RT gives it a 95%, IMDB rates it as a 7.8, and it has a pretty healthy following, so I suppose a good number of people think there's something special about it.

Nice. [Rec] >>>>>>>>>>> Quarantine.

I actually quite liked both of them (I saw Quarantine first, because REC was not yet available through Netflix). They are so similar that I can't see having a strong preference for one over the other.

I might give a slight nod to REC simply because I recognized Jennifer Carpenter from Dexter, which took away from my suspension of disbelief when I watched Quarantine, but it certainly wouldn't rate as a 1/2 star difference in my mind.

Awesome, Rec is easily the best zombie film I've ever seen (once again I thank ATOT for the recommendation), this is going to be sweet. I didn't bother watching Quarantine because American film makers have a habit of badly fucking up their McRemakes.

It's almost a shot-for-shot remake. I thought they did quite a good job. That being said, you're more or less watching the same movie again, so it's probably not worth watching unless that sounds appealing.

Good to hear they didn't screw it up, it's always heart-breaking to see one of your favourite films destroyed in a remake. Seems horror remakes often make it out relatively unharmed (The Ring, The Grudge).

I must say I HATE the whole American-remake-of-Japanese-horror-film genre, but then again I tend to dislike the source material as well. The Ring/Grudge/Dark Water/etc movies are more vaguely unpleasant than scary to me. All a matter of personal preference, I guess.

As an aside, I was largely pleased with REC/Quarantine because I really enjoy good horror movies and the entire genre has been taken over by an unholy cornucopia of non-scary "torture porn" crap and non-scary Japanese remakes. It's nice when they make something of quality IMO. 28 Days/Weeks Later and Let the Right One In are also recent standouts (perhaps it's not coincidental that these are not movies made by Americans).

I watched [REC]; not a bad movie at all.

Refused to see Quarantine as i didn't want to have it ruined by a dumb Hollywood remake [though it sounds like shockingly, it was not a mess].

Will be interesting to see the sequel.

[Rec] isn't on my VOD, so I'll probably check out Quarantine. Not really interested in reading Subtitles in a Horror flick anyway.
