Rebuilding tonight

Here is my plan:

1.) Remove old HD for new HD
2.) Pray MB is not a POS now after 6 mos of neglecting to fix the problem
3.) Pray Sound card is not POS after it going out 3 mos ago.
4.) Get system stable with shipped drivers.
5.) Upgrade drivers.
6.) Back up system (How do I do this? What do I back up?)
7.) Take Old HD and attempt to make it slave to new HD so I can move my files.

Any other tips anyone might have?

The best back-up method would probably be Norton Ghost. You could Ghost your old HDD, then just boot from it and restor everything on to your new HDD without losing a thing.

And if you don't have Norton Ghost, PowerQuest's DriveCopy 4.0 does it easier and faster and cheaper, and is OS independent if you create it's (2) bootable floppies.
