Rebuilding RAID 1

So one of the two drives in my RAID 1 array got clobbered and I'm going to swap out the dead one for a new one of the same size. Do I need to format the new drive first or will the rebuild utility take care of that?
 
rebuild should handle it - real raid cards will auto-rebuild on their own - hence the ole pull and push temporary fix 🙂
