I still have an AGP x800 xt PE and an AGP 6800 ultra --- but my question is are there any faster video cards (i.e., PCIE) than either of these cards that were compatible with Windows 98 that I can use for a Win 98 legacy box? I have done some research, but haven't found anything faster (that I can use with Win 98)....thanks for any help/insight.

What games are you thinking of playing that need more than a 6800 Ultra?

I'd guess anything that needs more would be new enough to run on XP and 7.

I thought I was getting some artifacts and that my x800 might be dying, hence the need for a possible rebuild of a legacy box, so I was just wondering if there is anything better that works with Win 98?

Mods: sorry, I guess I should have posted this in the video card forum.

all depends on what games you want to play really. but for nvidia, the 6-series was the last to have windows 98 drivers. i have used a 6600 gt in windows 98 and it worked fine. if you want to play games pre-1999 you might be better off with a card from that era like a 3dfx voodoo

For ATI cards the Radeon X800 you have now is the best they made that supported Windows 98/ME. Personally I'd go with something cooler and quieter on a Windows 98 legacy box.
