Hello,

My old computer died about three weeks ago due to bad capacitors on the motherboard (EP-8KHA+). It looks like 4 - 6 of the capactitors are or were going bad.

Is this a socket A motherboard? Is the 1700+ socket A?

What motherboard would you recommend as a replacement. I want to put a new motherboard in and give the computer to my sister and nephews. I imagine they won't use the computer for much more than surfing the net & MS Office?

Thank you,

p.s. In my sig you can see my new rig and the old rig (parts other than the mobo). I bought this comptuer about 3 years ago when I was a noob from ebay. I just built my first computer :p

Yes, you need a socket A mobo and your 1700+ is indeed Socket A as well.

I would get any recent Socket A mobo considering your uses, perhaps one based on VIA KT600 or nForce2 chipset depennding on price.

Would someone in the US plz show some suitably priced mobos?

Cool, only $57 at newegg. It seems like it has quite a few features & is upgradeable too! :)

Thanks for the info.

I would also recommend the Shuttle ... but if you look around you'll see that there are many, many posts/articles on replacing capacitors. It's a common problem, and $3 in parts can probably get your old board working again.

PartsExpress.com carries high-temp caps for cheap.
