evga 9800gtx

Sony FD MPF9201121-1/MPF920-Z (Z/121) 6082 1.44MB 3.5in Floppy Disk Drive (Black)

Dual Layer DVD?RW Bare Drive (Black)

1. Use: CS4 Premium Suite mostly Photoshop; Lightroom; CAD; etc; LARGE files

2. Budget: 2500

3.Location: USA

4. CPU: Intel at least core 2 duo if not i7.

5. Reuse: Obviously I would love to save by reusing any of the parts listed above

6. Yes I have been reading and searching

7. I would like to OC

8. ASAP as my present setup is not doing the trick and I have work to do. I am a photographer/architect/web designer. I do NO gaming or high end 3d modeling

I am assuming I need at the least:

CPU, MB, new memory thinking 12GB as 4 has been way too little, but not sure what else, probably a new cooler setup. And I have been using the 74 Raptor as my c drive but it is too bloody small so I am buying a 300 Veloraptor to replace it. Plus I would like to go 64 bit (obviously for more ram), vista ultimate.

Thanks in advance for any and all help and hopefully no flames for my ignorance.

Asus P5Q Pro
16GB DDR2-800
e8x00
300GB Velociraptor for OS & programs
300GB Velociraptor for storage & CS4 scratchdisk

Or even consider one of the SLC SSD drives for your OS & apps.

Thanks. The Asus P5Q Pro says it only supports 8GGB Ram. Is that not correct? Of course 8 would be a huge improvement. Anyone else?

The manual for the P5Q Pro disagrees with Newegg. I trust Asus more than Newegg.

And that's the board I use in my gaming rig, BTW. Very solid, easy overclocking, lots of features if you need them.

There's a combo with the e8400 + P5Q Pro for $260AR at newegg. Very good price, much better than I paid for my two items (bought separately).

So this is what I am thinking (today at least):

New:
Asus P5Q
Wolfdale 8500
Thermalright ultra 120 heatsink
(3) G.Skill 4GB 2x2 1066 (not sure about which to use /different timings & voltages, greek to me)
Vista Ultimate 64
Total $845 for what seems to be a big upgrade

Re Use:
Thermaltake Kandalf VA9000BWS Full Tower Aluminum Case w/Side Panel Window (Black)
PC P&C 750 Power Supply
WD 300 GB Velo Raptor (already ordered)
(2) Western Digital Raptor WD740GD 74GB Serial ATA 10,000RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer and Serial ATA Signal Cable Bundle
Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 ST3400832AS 400GB Serial ATA 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer
evga 9800gtx ??????? Should I bite the bullet and go to the gtx??
Sony FD MPF9201121-1/MPF920-Z (Z/121) 6082 1.44MB 3.5in Floppy Disk Drive (Black)
Dual Layer DVD?RW Bare Drive (Black)

There's a combo sale at newegg: e8400 + P5Q Pro for $260 after rebate.

Note, the P5Q Pro only has four memory sockets so if you want to run more than 8GB (4x2GB) you'll have to bump up to the 4GB sticks.
