reboots when trying to read a cd???

Thanks for reading this,
I'll post my system followed by the problem

MSI 815pro
733 133fsb
256 megs samsung pc-133 ram
Seagate barracuda 20.4 gig ide drive (ata 66)
Seagate barracuda 9.4 gig scsi drive
Adaptec 2940uw scsi controller
Matrox g400 max dual head
creative 48x cd-rom
2x rewritable burner (generic or lost the info along time ago)

My problem is this everytime I go to read a cd the system reboots. I was able to install windows but nothing more that needed the cd-rom support. I thought that maybe the firmware needed an upgrade but this problem happens with both the cd-rom and the writer. I have an idea but I don't know how much ground its standing on but I have both the drives on an ata 66 cable but im sure that they are ata 33 if anything. Would this cause the conflict? Ive also disabled the auto read function on both drives. Thanks for your response.

I had the same problem happen with one of my clients' PCs just recently. I don't know whether it will be the answer that will solve the problem, but the problem was the same. I fixed it by replacing the power supply. After that, it was fine.

check your system irq, see if there are any conflict.
Check and make sure the you are using the right controller on you device panel. Sometimes 98 picks up the wrong controller and it can be problematic.
And put the 2 cd roms that you have in 2 different ide channels if both are ide.
I hope this can help u.
