reboots at turn up

When I turn it on, computer starts loading windows then it reboots, never making it to windows. Tried safe mode no help.

Thanks,
John

just started doing this in the past week, i've had it for several years. Self built system. ....Quick correction to my earlier statement, it doen't even start loading windows....not getting out of bios

Just throwing this out early in the discussion.

If you've had it for "several years", don't forget you have a small battery on your motherboard that may be dead. This keeps your BIOS memory active and if it goes dead, you need to replace it.

If after making adjustments you notice nothing is being saved by your BIOS, you might have an "easy" solution at hand.

Not saying this is definitively your issue, but keep it in mind, just in case.

If you get to the screen where there are options to select safe mode, your pc is completing post so it's most likely software

You could try booting from the XP cd (assuming it is Windows XP you're running) and the select the repair option. If that doesn't work and you have enough free disc space, try a parallel install. Proceed as if you were doing a new install but don't format the disc and chose a different installation directory for windows.

is there a 'checksum error'?
If there is, then take Gentle's advice.

If not, then what is happening?
Beeps?
Error messages?
