I have a Canon s800 that I have run fine for a year or so with WinXP SP1. I had to replace a motherboard and so I reloaded XP with SP2 and downloaded all XP2 updates. I also have the latest driver from Canon that is compatible with SP2, and all of the other MB drivers and such are the latest.

Whenever I try to print any kind of document, the printer icon appears in the system tray for a couple of seconds and then the computer just reboots. The event viewer shows event 6161 error 259.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled with antivirus off. I have changed the print processor to winprint RAW with no effect. The printer is hooked up via USB. The printer port is USB001 and doesn't show any resource conflicts. I can't find any other suggestions and am out of ideas.

Really sounds like a resource conflict.

Under "Startup and Recovery" do you have it set to NOT automatically restart.
Won't fix the problem, but maybe we can see a particular file at fault.

I already have it set to not automatically reboot. It reboots anyway and does not give me a blue screen. I just see the error in the event viewer.

Now if this isn't weird. I read a printing troubleshooting article on the MS website. After trying everything else, at the bottom of the article it recommends to do a clean boot. I did that, and it prints. I enabled one at a time and rebooted after each the system.ini, win.ini, load startup items, and then went to normal startup. After each change it printed fine from notepad, and now under normal startup it prints fine. What would have changed by going through the clean boot process and renabling items one at a time?
