Rebooting Solution found!

It may be to early to tell but I think that I have found a solution to my rebooting problem with my Abit KA7-100 and my classic 950 Slot-A Athlon.

I found this info at another site and wanted to share it with the people here. I think that those of you using a motherboard that has a VIA chipset should try it and see if it works for you...it did for me!

Windows 98 hangs or reboots during startup or at desktop!

This again has been reported as being due to a problem with the Seagate device driver files. One user who is a small system builder has reported that renaming drvwppqt.vxd and drvwq117.vxd solves the problem. They experienced the problem on motherboards from seven different manufacturers and found the above solution to be successful.

I simply renamed them segatedriver1.vxd and segatedriver2.vxd

Give it a shot!

Thanks mjs22, I think this is what I've been looking for. A system I built had this problem, and I'd not been able to find a solution.

Just for kicks I tried renaming these files on a Duron system w/o this problem, and this dropped my cold boot times (power on to HD activity cease) from 32 seconds to 28 seconds. I changed the files back, and boot time jumped back to 32 s.

Thanks again, I can't wait to try this on that problem system!

Hey, I was having this same problem with my windows ME setup. I would boot up, and it would hang for a second and then flash and say it is now safe to shutdown your computer and die. well I was trying to fix this problem and I hit pause at the error and it said something about error loading file lmouse.drv. I dont know what this is, but my system wouldnt laod. I had to install windows 98 se over ME to correct this problem and now when I boot up I get a system ini file currupt called nwnblink.vxd. I love how descriptive windows file names are. Makes for such easy troubleshooting. Anyway, this is casuing frequent blue screens and it;s just annoying. Overall I think this has stemmed from that first startup problem. If anyone knows how I can fix this problem, or reinstall that certain file or how to fix it, please please reply or email me at swedeen@charter.net. BTW, the reason I noticed this could be my prob is because I have a seagate drive on an asus a7v133a board. Thanks again!!
