Has anyone seen this commercial? Where the cop goes looking for this kid on the street in his squad car. He calls the kid over and points to his laptop and says "It crashed again." The kid punches a few buttons and says "Reboot with F8 into safe mode" and then the Apple/Macintosh "dong" startup sound plays

The other part that bothers me is, should the police computers be crashing all the time? (No.) Do they?

Well? Any law-enforcement types want to chime in? For the most part, aren't those computers setup to do one thing and that's it?

Although I think I remember a thread where someone saw a cop in their cruiser playing solitaire on the computer.

Ya, I saw this too. The cop is having problems with his computer, and the kid tells him to reboot into safe mode using F8 to fix it. And that's it. I feel sorry for the future of the navy if they are hiring guys who think safe mode fixes everything.

Actually, it was the Navy (my mistake) but don't ask me, ask the idiots that came up with the commercial :D

I saw that too... I was actually impressed that his instructions were accurate (even though not a true fix, but step #1)

Our laptops use Windows 98, but the only thing we leave open is the MDT console for sending messages to other officers & running plates/names/IDs/etc.

And yes, solitaire is possible.

I'm addicted. I couldn't ever be a cop if I had that tempting me right next to me in the car!
