Reboot behavior of A8N32-SLI

I built a new gaming machine over the weekend and for the most part, it's working great. I've been stress testing since Saturday and I've yet to have any crashes, lockups, reboots, etc. However, this machine exhibits a strange behavior when it reboots. The behavior can best be described in this sequence:

- I choose to reboot
- As soon as Windows is done shutting down, the display goes black (as I expect it to before the BIOS POST begins)
- For about 1 second, the monitor will lose sync with the video card and I hear what can best be described as the fans, hard drives and optical drives spinning down
- Then the monitor regains sync with the video card, the fans, hard drives and optical drives seem to spin back up (before they've even had time to fully spin down) and I see the BIOS POST begin

This behavior, especially the fans and drives either spinning down or losing power for just a brief moment, is something I've never seen before and I'm not sure what to make of it.

Components flagged with a * were brought forward from my previous gaming machine. Everything else is new.

As I said above, I've been stress testing for a couple of days now and everything seems to be rock solid. CPU idle temp is ~ 40c and under a full load, the highest I've seen it is 48c. The 3.3v, 5v and 12v rails, according to the BIOS hardware monitor as well as the ASUS PC Probe software running in Windows, are continuously well within 5% tolerances. For those not familiar with this PSU, here are the specs from PC Power & Cooling:

Other miscellaneous information about this system:
- nothing is overclocked (all stock speeds)
- the 24-pin ATX plug and the 4-pin 12v plug on the mb are connected
- the ASUS EZ-PLUG adapter on the mb is also connected (although the mb manual says this is only necessary for SLI configs, I believe)
- the mb is using the latest non-beta BIOS (0703) from ASUS
- the only power-related setting in the BIOS that is not set to default is the DDR voltage (increased to 2.75v per Corsair's general recommendation)
- the SATA RAID controller on the mb is disabled
- the optical drives are connected as master/slave on the primary IDE channel using a 40-pin IDE cable
- the hard drives are connected via SATA interfaces

That's all I can think of at the moment. Can anyone shed some light on what's causing this behavior to occur? Is it normal or expected with this board or the nForce4 platform?

Just rebooted and checked my system to see if it was exhibiting any of the same behavior as you described but it restarted normally as per usual. I'm running the original bios 703 since building the system last week.

Hope you can work things out.
 
I think that is normal behaviour with this board. It does the same thing on mine with bios 804. It happens on a lot of server boards as well, the fan controller settings reset when the BIOS gets initalized but it restores the settings afterwards. I've never seen it happen on a desktop board though, nor have I seen a desktop board taking 2-3 seconds to show the initial bios screen.
