Went with my daughters today for a long ride all over the countryside....

Took a few photos and thought they were ok, then I converted them to B&W and man, what a difference!

Keep in mind that changing the image to grayscale and back to rgb if you like is the "proper" way to convert a color image to B&W.

You may certainly feel free to simply desaturate the image like you did - and in some cases the result may be preferable, but just a heads up that there's more than one way to do it, and the results, though subtle, ARE different.

Good pictures. Your second picture's forest is underexposed though.

If you like to experiment, try adjusting the color balance (even to unrealistic looking levels) before the desaturation. This is similar to using color filters when shooting tradition B&W film.

Yeah i need to work more on color balance prior to brightness and contrast adjustments.

They were parked in this old guys yard in the middle of nowhere...he had them all lined up.
An old Hudson, Ford Super-8, a couple buicks...really nice stuff!
