Rebate check for returned item

Hi all,

What would you do if a rebate check came for a item you purchased but later returned???

Has this ever happened to you?

Thoughts.

I once got a Rebate check for $200, when it was only supposed to be $100. Did the right thing by depositing it in the bank. 🙂

Only once & it was for $100:Q

I cashed that baby the same day, it was for a POS Toshiba PDA, E714 or something, it would lock up if you held it wrong out of the box. Only PDA I've ever returned for my $ back.

(Have a 1945 Ipaq coming today😉 )

I always assumed that stores wouldn't take an item back if the UPC was missing, but, I guess if you complained loud enough...and if I had to go through all that trouble over a POS item I'd feel justified keeping the rebate.

Some rebates dont require the UPC code. For instance, from Best Buy, the Samsung 712N had a 120$ rebate and a 50$ rebate. Only the 50$ rebate required UPC code. Although, since its a pretty great monitor for final price 250$ after all is said and done, I plan on keeping it.

OH! OH! send the money back asap

The scales of justice have been balanced.

PS: I had a rebate rejected because it was sent in late even though I had 14 days to mail it and I sent it the day after I bought the product. I'm going back to the store to complain.

I don't recall ever having a rebate that didn't require the UPC so I never tried to return anything I sent a rebate in for...

I remember the Best Buy's CEO complaining about people who return stuff after getting the rebates...I thought Best Buy doesn't take stuff back w/o UPC
