reassociating mpeg audio to .mpg video file

it seems that in wmp9 and 10 the program is confused as to what the audio codec is. (when i check properties all i see is a -). the files play fine in wmp 6.1. how do i go about reassociating the audio codec for mpg so wmp knows what to play for sound?
