Reasons why a newly built computer won't boot?

I've just helped my friend put together this:

Abit KG7Raid
Athlon XP 1900
256 Megs of DDR
GF3

I have plugged all the case cables in (LED, Reset, speaker Power) according to the manual. We have a brand new Inwin Q300 case with a 300 W power supply. When I go to turn it on for the boot test, nothing happens. I've tried replugging, making sure everything is securely in, and still can't get any boot. Fans dont spin, no speaker sound happens.

The only reason I can think of is a dead motherboard or a faulty power supply. I don't think the AMD XP is messed up, but I dont have another one to test with.

If nothings dead(mobo or PSU) then its the power switch cable on the case. Make sure you have in the right spot also try flipping it around. Also if the mobo is touching any metal on the case it could be shorting it out.

These are prob the only 2 reasons why it ain't coming on(if the mobo and/or PSU ain't dead). You did install the spacers between the mobo and case right? I know my friend(he thinks he knows alot about PC's and he does at times but seems to forget on what to do) put a guys PC together before and it wouldnt come on. So he asked for my help so I went over there and fixed it in 15mins. He had about half the spacers on but the rest of the mobo was screwed straight to the case

. Which caused the mobo to short out.

What was funny is they where up all night the night before trying to get it to come on 🙂.

Me 3, it was for me.

Luckily we have guys like ausm to help us spot these things on the AT forums 🙂

BTW, thanks again for helping me spot this with my build, ausm. It's stable as a rock now 🙂

Any of the fan wires crimped? My pc wouldn't boot, and I found the wires to the front fan had been crimped by the drive cage. I freed up the wires and the pc started with no problem.
