Reasonable price for DVD media?

Hi,

I have not been following the latest deals on blank DVD media.

Now that I have a new machine with an 8x DVD +/- combo burner, I want to image the drive for safekeeping.

- What is a reasonable price for blank 8x media?
- What brands are good?
- What DVD format should I use? (+ vs. - , R vs. RW)

Thanks,

David

Here is a good link to start with 🙂 There are arguments for both +R and -R but what it comes down to is what you plan on doing with 'em. Since you plan to do mostly data back up, +R or -R isn't as important as it is for DVD player readability. For decent media, I've seen about 40 to 60 cents per disc with the premium Japanese discs starting at 90 cents going to well over a dollar. Don't get suckered by brand name prices though, you might get okay to crap media rebranded and sold for >$1 per disc. The link should give you more than enough info beyond that

Actually that page is filled with quite a lot crap and it's written by a guy that have showed numerous times that he really doesn't know what he's talking about. You'll find better info if you search for example CDfreaks.com's media forum.

Just a Heads up, I just got back from Bestbuy, and they have Fuji 8x Dvd+r, cakebox of 50, for $29.99 with a 5 buck Mail in rebate, and have checked them with Plextools, and they are TY discs, capable of 12x.
You need to make sure they say Made in Japan on the disc, and on the wrapper, tho of the 5 or so I checked, all were Japan.
