Parents decided this time to get a laptop (Macbook) to use both on their travels, and at home as their main desktop... Since there is no docking station for the Macbook, they would have to just plug everything in when they use it at home....

Other than the battery killing issues of leaving it plugged in and on most of the time, would they run into any other trouble?

Why battery killing? It may be a bit more trouble, but couldn't you just unplug the battery when plugged into the wall?
I've been doing that for all my lappys (take out battery @ ~66% charge) if I'm running them for extended periods of time.

Doubt it, my father uses a laptop for a desktop and has been doing it for years. Other than him not having a battery worth a crap, there are no other issues.

Its pretty retarded now that I think about it, he has his laptop with a port replicator, he uses a 19inch LCD with a regular keyboard and mouse and never takes the laptop off the port.
