I ordered a handful of 90-degree benders from Monoprice. The freebies that came with my Gigabyte were too short and too stiff to route. The less tha $2ea cables were far more bendy and thus easier to install.

OEM drives have never come with cables, it's not something limited to new drives. And most B&M retailers markup cables like crazy. Always buy online unless you're in a pinch and can't wait for an online cable to be shipped.

decent cables are shielded and have lock clips on them. monoprice not so much. not a big deal when you are in a not-so-noisy area and you aren't going LONG.

but i've had a few issues with the long dong silver ones

FrostedFlakes is correct - OEM drives are always bare. I have solved the problem, however, by hanging all my cables accumulated for the past 15 years in my computer room closet. The wife says they breed and multiply at night. 🙂
