Reason for moving from Win2k to WinXP Pro?

I keep telling people (who are apparently in denial) that XP *will be* the replacement for 2K, so you might as well learn it now. 😉

The main difference (other than the upgraded kernel) is that the interface is "skinnable". Also more bells and whistles are being integrated into XP. XP will functional on 2K drivers for alot of stuff as well. The Office Products are called "XP" too and they are being written to optimally work with XP.

The downside (which is being put in place anyway for all new M$ products), is the product activation.

[EDIT: Let me add that XP will have a "consumer", "Pro", and "Server" version (with varying types of server), and where "server" will initially be called "2002" so that all those schmoes who have suddenly found themselves obsoleted won't feel so bad 😛(but it is still XP in reality).

Honestly, the upgrade from W2K to WXP is evolutionary, not revolutionary.

The upgrade from Win9x to XP is the greatest thing since velcro.

If you're happy with W2K, there's not a whole lot of incentive to upgrade just yet. (And this is coming from an XP zealot, so you know I'm really giving an honest opinion.)

If you're running Win9x, then XP should eliminate that scourge from the face of the earth.

To be concise, here's why I am in the process of moving from Windows 2000 to Windows XP:

1. Expanded digital camera support. The only reason I have used WinME for more than a week at a time has been the abilty to "explore" my cam.
2. The built in skin support. Once someone hacks out the format, I'm gonna make it look like KDE. 🙂
3. Pretty soon, software will start being written that uses WinXP's new common control library. I made a little app in VB6 using it, and it didn't work on Win2K or Win9X. :Q

There, I said it.

For me... a great reason to format and start fresh =D... my OS drive has been a mess for a while, so glad this came along... I was actually going to wait till October 25th before the format.
