rear speakers and the santa cruz

i just got the santa cruz to go with my cambridge fps2000 digital speakers
i have connected the versajack to the digital input on the speaker system
i can only get stereo reception (ie the left and right front speakers work but nothing comes out of the others)
in addition, i have a tv wonder card and am currently getting no sound when watching tv. it worked fine with my onboard sound.

what am i doing wrong????

For some reason, I can't get my versa jack to work either. I have it connected in 6 speaker mode for my Z-540s, with the front speakers in the green input and the rear speakers in the black input.

Also, there's an button for Virtual 5.1 in the Master Volume section. If you want to use the versa jack, try pressing that button. I just tried that and I'm getting sound through all three jacks.

Hope this helps.

currently i only am using ther versajack to connect to my speakers
should i be using an additional jack as well??
and if i did would it still be digital???
the cambridge fps 2000 speakers have this digital connection (im sure they want u to use a creative sound card) that sort of looks like a high tech s video connection on the end that enters into the base module and there is an addaptor so the end that connects into the sound card is rca or what have u
I was assuming that the versajack would send the signal for all 4 speakers and the subwolfer. Is this incorrect?

okay
so i decided to hook up all the speaker cables from the sc to the speakers (the digital and both analog front and back)
I am getting sound out of the rear speakers now however im not sure if this is the optimal set up
in addition when i turn on my tv wonder ie start the guide plus prg
i only get sound out of the rear speakers
i believe this card only produces analog sound so i may need to disconect the digital jack and just use the analog connectors but that certainly will suck

I'm not familiar with those speakers - do they accept digital input? If not, you'll have to use the analog connectors - both the front and rear connectors on the card.
If using digital, have you set the software to use it? In the Santa Cruz Control Panel, has it been set to 4.1 Digital for the output mode, and the Versajack for Digital output?

i have things set as u recommended on the tbsc
the speakers do accept digital input through a special connector that was supplied with the speakers
since creative makes cambridge im worried that the speakers some how require a creative soundcard to make it optimal?

D

Well I can't find any mention of this speaker on Creative's site, at least not in english. The only match on Creative's site that I could find was by Google and it was in Japanese. Creative needs a search function on their site.
But anyway, according to a review at 3dAccelerated.com, the digital input is by way of a "digital din cable." As far as I know, a DIN cable uses pins, like a PS/2 keyboard connector, and not the kind of plugs that the Santa Cruz uses.

And I don't think that the sound quality from the analog inputs will "suck" either. I'm still in Analog-land, and it sounds fine here. One reviewer at 3dSoundsurge.com said of it:
"However, to be honest, my ears could not detect any difference in audio quality between the DIN and the standard analog inputs but it certainly did not hurt."

since creative makes cambridge im worried that the speakers some how require a creative soundcard to make it optimal?
Somehow, that wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Just a reason to try to force their customers using only their products.
You might just have to stick with analog for now - hook into the Front and Rear connectors on the Santa Cruz, and in the SC's Control Panel, set it for 4 Speakers. Hopefully that'll do it.

i think creative just no longer makes the speakers
i does have a din on the speaker side but the speakers also came with a din to rca converter which i have connected

I'm kind of lost here now, sorry. Din-RCA connector? Do you mean 3.5mm plugs? That's all that the TBSC card has is those 3.5mm plugs. I am a bit new to digital speakers, so I really don't know how the setup would be with digital speakers, but the way the Control Panel makes it look, you plug the front speakers into the Versajack, and the rear into the Rear Jack; with that done, it needs to be set to Digital 4.1.

Anyone with experience with this is welcome to add something. 🙂😉

i have my z540s set up and although i do have some sound coming out of rear speakers, it isn't much. maybe the fader on ur speakers is set improperly?

yes this converts it to the same size as the rest of the plugs
i thought it was called an rca cable but maybe its not but it is the same size as the rest of the cables and fits right in

Ok, gotcha. RCA plugs look sort of like coaxial connectors - like cable TV. The back of a VCR usually has some of the round RCA plugs; they're also typically used with home stereo set speakers. The SC has 3.5mm stereo connectors; don't know what their name is though, phono plugs maybe?

What you need is an attenuator cable. It looks like this:

Using the Versajack's ability to output a digital signal, you will run plug the 3.5mm plug into the TBSC, then use the RCA plug on the other end of the attenuator cable and plug it into your SPDIF input on your control pod.

You may reference your hookups to this page, however, this is for a 5.1 configuration.

Hope this helps!

i dont think i need any new cables since i can connect the digital with the cable i have
it was designed to do connect digitally with another creative product such as the live series
in the box also was also a converter that changes the end which connects to the sound card to the 3.5mm connection
the cable actually looks a lot like your picture (a thicker area in the middle where the adapter fits)
