I have an old Honda Accord V6 w/AT that has a leaking rear main seal. Replacing the rear seal at this point is the very last option and would consider getting rid of car before doing that (repair cost $600-$800 and no way DIY for me). I would like to try using some of the leak stop additive to at least slow it down. I am not a fan of using any additives but in this case it is worth a try. Which oil leak stop product works the best ? -Thanks

I'm very skeptical of putting anything in my engine's oil that is designed to clog up small passages.

replace the PCV valve, will help reduce crankcase pressure and therefore oil leaks. This is why it's good to maintain your car in the first place! BTW op, where are you located?

Its designed to soak into seals and make them expand but does virtually nothing to metal surfaces and passages.

Clean/replace your PCV valve. Hondas are very picky with their PCV system and oil usage/leaks.

And change your oil to Valvoline maxlife 10w30. Its a good semi-syn oil and seems to slow down small leaks. Not a fix but does work well.

I'll try thank first. Not really expecting a fix in bottle. -Thanks

I agree with Jim try the maxlife oil. It helped a rear main seal but didn't completely stop it. If a drop a day is ok with you give it a try.

Have an upper valve cover leak on an old car. Similarily I also will end up getting rid of it than spend the labor cost to fix it. Whatever your oil you use you can go for a heavier oil in that range when it's cold. Example, instead of Mobil1 0w30 use 10w30 from Castrol. It won't stop the leak, but it can leak less when your car is sitting. pqiaamerica has an extensive list of oil tests and comparisons. Too bad they don't make it easy to find on their site. You use 20 or 30 weight?

Another vote for Maxlife. Its the only thing I've ever seen reduce oil leaks & consumption. Won't get rid of but I've seen it make things better.

I checked the PCV valve iand it did not seem to be clogged but I replaced it anyway and changed the oil , new oil Maxlife 5w-30 synthetic. I will give it some time and see what happens. Depending on the results, I might add ATP AT-205 Re-Seal ( http://www.amazon.com/ATP-AT-205-Re...ie=UTF8&qid=1456490993&sr=8-1&keywords=at-205 ) to attempt reduce the leak further ( again not expecting a fix in a bottle).

Skip the additive and just keep using the Maxlife. If it still leaks try 10w30 next time.
