RealVNC woes - nm

RealVNC setup in service mode, running on the host computer.

- set to listen to port 5901
- router set to port forward 5901 to my IP address
- remote computer connecting to abc.def.ghi.jkl:5901

Then I get a unable to connect to host: connection timed out error. I have a roommate with RealVNC on the same network, but his port is the native 5900 that RealVNC is setup with. He is port forwarded on 5900 just as I am on 5901. I can actually get to the login screen using 5900 (of course I don't know his pword, but I can get to it nevertheless). Why won't 5901 on mine work then?

i remember there being a problem when i did this. i think because it still uses other ports. so pretty much i am useless to answer this question. i think you may need to forward other ports too.

Sorry, I'm klutz. My roommate gave me our network IP while he was on a VPN somewhere else.... *grumble*. No wonder it didn't work, I was trying to VNC into someone else's network. Bleh.

hahah, yep that would do it.

its always nice to use the right ips. lol.

you should look into a dynamic ip service so you can connect to mydomain.com:5901 instead of x.x.x.x:5901.

just a thought
