Hello, I have received my second shuttle ss51 from new egg (1st one had a faulty IDE controller) and have set everything up.
I installed the drivers for the onboard Realtek LAN and when I plug in a network cable from my cable modem to it the green light lights up and the orange activity light blinks... but for some reason my internet does not work..
I put in a 3com PCI ethernet card, installed the drivers and plugged in my network connection and then everything works...

can anyone tell me what to do? (I tried getting the latest drivers from Realtek but it still doesnt work)

by the way.. under network connections it says everything is working and my connection is active when hooked up through the onboard lan.. but it still doesnt work

Leave the 3Com card in, and enjoy your life.

On board LAN cards are quirky to boot.

'my internet does not work' is not a very good description of what's going on. Turn the cable modem off for 5 minutes, that should clear out any MAC->IP bindings it has. If your modem has a reset button that should clear out any MAC->IP bindings as well.

Are you getting an IP/etc. from the DHCP server? 'ipconfig /all | more' will tell you. Are there errors on the wire? 'netstat -e' will tell you if there is. If you are getting an IP, can you ping that IP, the default gateway and the DNS servers that are assigned to you?

Neal: did you ever get this problem solved?
I just got an SS51 and am having the same problem -- on-board LAN not working, PCI NIC working well, but don't want to give up my only PCI slot!

Thanks!
