Realtek onboard audio - volume mixer freezing

I running an i7 with an Intel board that has realtek onboard audio. OS is Vista64. When I open the Volume mixer from the taskbar, the window is real slow. The not responding message also comes up. Changing the sound on it is slow and trying to move the window is slow too. Not sure if it's a OS issue or Realtek driver issues.
