i posted in computer help, the "fix" that i've found online through hours of googling is this...never use the sleep option, then go to realtek in the task manager on the right and click the advanced folder when you open it, then click disable autodetect. That's fixed it for me however it's really freakin' inconvenient not being able to use sleep.

Same thing for me, it will register the mic. This is what I did. Unplug the audio from the mobo and disconnect your headset so there's no audio output whatsoever. Open up the realtek icon on the bottom, above the word analog is a folder, click that and check "disable front jack detection". Then plug in your headphones, it should register and you should hear static in your ears while you're inserting them. From there you still won't hear anything. TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER, not restart, i mean turn off, then when it's off, flip the switch on the power supply; we're talking totally dead here. then turn the whole thing on, plug in your speakers, keep the headphones in and you should hear the microsoft sound playing when you log in.

If that doesn't work, write Realtek hate mail like I do almost regularly, it's kind of funny because they don't even speak english correctly, and i'm supposed to trust them to deliver quality products? And you can always try installing the newest drivers from their website too, althought I found that actually cut the sound out for me alltogether and I had to do a system restore to get the sound again.

Hope that works for you, it's a bug and nobody knows who's fault it is.

For some reason I've never experienced any of these types of issues on a number of boards with Realtek chips. Maybe the implementation by the motherboard manufacturer has something to do with it, I dunno.

I'm running Vista. Same hardware has run on XP without an issue either.

In the case of Vista, I've never downloaded or installed a realtek driver. I let WU handle it and it has even updated itself a couple times since installing Vista in January.

It works fine for a lot of people, unfortunately some users get problems (just like XP too) and automatically blame the OS rather then something else like drivers etc....there is no perfect OS since variables like drivers/user errors etc to name a few play into the equation.

One day I might get a 100% working wireless LAN adaptor on my brother's XP PC,I guess I should blame XP right(it works for everything you would say) rather then the drivers :frown: .

alanwest09872: Have you tried different Realtek drivers?..Ones from manufacturers website too(ie Abit).

This is definately a compatibility problem because i've read literally 100's of threads from people complaining about this, and nobody has an answer. Realtek won't write me back when I send them emails, and Vista says there's nothing wrong. Yet every couple days I have this problem!

Note to everyone, I'm back to square one, the "fix" i had working earlier, yeah, it isn't working now and there's nothing come hell or high water that seems to get the sound back to my f***ing headphones. I don't care who is at fault, I just want it fixed! I can hear a click when I plug the phones in, then nothing with sound!!!

It doesn't help that when I go to Realtek's site, it never tells me what drivers I need, so I've installed different ones and each time I lose the realtek icon on the bottom taskbar that lets me play with the sounds in the first place...not to mention none of the drivers have fixed the problem and it just leads me to needing a system restore because I can't get things back the way they were. Oh, not to mention their driver "updates", the grammer is terrible, and these guys are supposed to be my source for reliable software? They don't even speak english correctly. Bad programmers...naughty

i have tried drivers from every website out there. if i use any mic that uses the 3.5 mm pin it doesnt work but if i use usb it works in secs. my mic and everything worked fine under xp. (dual boot system) but as soon as i boot into vista bam its broke.

im not saying that tis vista's fault i think its more of a realtek and vista isssue they need to get togeather fix the problem
