I installed it yesterday on my laptop,no issues,as to reasons why?.. It's a free update and in general Realtek drivers install fine in my experience.

Sounds same to me,their readme file is available for download but that says big fat zero on changes.

Wonder if this FIX has anything to do with RealTek Dvr Audio anomalies Vs some MB's BIOS Firmware such as the As Rock Z77 MB or MS's Win Mixer Software.

You might loose your ability to download Video files or record Online Audio - Write Protection - Who knows unless you give it go but not without a System BackUp.

FWIW they added Win10 to the list of OSs if you like official support.

I'll give it a try. I've been having random BSOD's on one of my PC's and the crash dump analysis always lists Realtek's High Definition Audio Driver. I've tried re-installs and removal several time to no avail. Maybe this fixes it (who knows).
