I have been using pcAnywhere for quite some time to administer a few computers remotely. Well, I recently upgraded my system to an Athlon 1200 on a Asus A7V133 with a Radeon. I don't use the program very regularly, but I came to realize that every time I used pcAnywhere 9.2 in Win2k my machine just went to a blank screen and restarted! This happens only about a minute or two after I make a connection to a remote desktop.
Thinking that the software probably just needed to be re-installed and was planning an upgrade anyway, I went ahead and got version 10.0 of the software. Well, I had the same exact problem with version 10.0 too!
Hmmm, this is pretty weird. I have winME on a dual boot on the same machine, so I installed pcAnywhere 10.0 on WinME thinking that the problems in win2k were most likely related to the OS or other software I had installed (by the way, the WinME install is pretty barebones, so any running software wouldn't be an issue). Well, when I make a remote desktop connection, it works for a while, but then either the machine reboots like in win2k, or I get a BSOD with some obscure VXD error. With the BSOD, I can get back into Windows, but pcAnywhere is totally unresponsive.
I checked the Symantec and Microsoft knowledge bases and found no reports of these problems. The fact that it occurs in both WinME and win2k on my system leads me to believe that it is somehow hardware, or hardware-settings related.
I doubt anyone will have an answer, but any help would be appreciated!
(By the way, since I am thinking this may be somewhat hardware-related, I posted in Motherboards as well as software and apps)
