Just last week I picked up a new Acer 22" Widescreen monitor (the model number escapes me right now, as it's at home and I'm at work). I used it on my old system until last night, when my nVidia 8800 GTS 640 arrived, to complete my new computer. Upon moving the monitor over, I noticed that things weren't sharp - text, etc, appeared very blurry. I was using the DVI cable that came with the monitor on my new computer. My old computer had been using the DVI cable from my previous monitor.
After playing with settings for about 30 mins and not seeing any real improvement, I decided to try my old DVI cable(currently in use on the 2nd computer) instead of the one that came with the monitor. When I swapped it over, all of a sudden everything became crisp.
Feeling as though the problem was solved, I hooked my second computer back up again (using the "new" DVI cable from my new monitor. There were no problems with it on that system, as the picture remained crisp.
After attempting to play a game (in which the resolution was changed) I exited to desktop to find it blurry again. I switched resolutions a few times and it didn't improve. Ultimately, I unplugged the DVI cable from the back of the computer and re-plugged it in. When it came back up, it was clear again.
So basically I have a new computer and monitor, which are fine most of the time - but after I exit a game, I always have to unplug and plug back in the cable to make the picture look right.
Any suggestions on what might be causing this and how to fix it for good?
