Really weird issue with left and right surround speakers

Hey all, everything has been going great with the sound system (thanks!) and tv, until i started playing god of war 3.

The game is 7.1 surround (as indicated in the options), and there is often music with drum beats playing in the background. I thought i was just going crazy when i thought that the sound was slightly different between them. Then i figured i was just kind of deaf in my left ear, lol.

Anyway, upon close inspection, im not. The right speaker appears to have more bass or something to it, while the left one is...not quite tinny, but more hollow sounding? Its definitely noticeable when there are drum beats and similar sounds.

Now, how the hell do i know if its the game being silly and putting out different amounts of whatever (bass?) to the right vs left (if thats even possible)? The music playing was exactly the same...i know that sometimes, depending on where you are facing, sounds will be different, which i understand. Is it possible the left speaker is just fucked up or something?

Ive never noticed this before, and its really bothering me (things like this distract the hell out of me and i cant concentrate lol). They're EXACTLY the same speaker. I dont think the speaker is blown since i have the volume limited and am really careful about how loud things are since its my parents' home (plus its only this speaker). I couldn't find any additional settings in the receivers menus either.

play the same noise individually through the speakers and compare. (your receiver may have a speaker test function.) Otherwise, play something through the receiver in matrix mode (might be called 7.1 stereo) and walk around listening to each speaker (or disconnect all of them and hook up one at a time)

i thought about the test mode sounds or whatever, but all it is is a weird zapping noise. im not sure if that would reveal the issue since it seems to be bass related.

the only other thing besides the game acting funky that i could think of is that the bass is on the right side of the room, pretty near the right surround speaker. however, as my ear was up to the speaker and i dont think that the beats were loud enough to even be picked up by the bass, i doubt its that.

Are they hard to swap?

nah, i guess i could swap them. just didnt feel like it because it was getting late and im (especially this) lazy lol. good idea. i also just dont want it to be a hardware problem, that would suck. :(
