Ok, I have a system that I'm remotely troubleshooting for a friend that has an issue that so far I have not been able to fix. He is able to hear audio in applications however he is not able to use his microphone (front or rear jacks) in order to send audio via in game or via TeamSpeak 3. The most that he's able to do is send audio that has a lot of static in it and if it's boosted enough you can hear his voice but it is extremely muffled. This all started at the end of a DoTA 2 game for some reason. Here's what's been tried so far:

1) Tried using the front ports instead of rear, no change

2) Tried using a different known working microphone, no change

3) Tried installing the drivers from Realtek instead of the PC vendor, these are the most recent ones listed on their site for Windows 8.1 64 bit, R 2.79

4) Tried installing the drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's site (board is a Biostar A960D+) instead, no change

5) Tried completely uninstalling the audio drivers from his system and deleting the drivers and then letting Windows install the audio drivers, no change

6) Tried using a different extension cord so that the cord could reach, no change

System specs:

CPU: AMD FX-6300
Motherboard: Biostar A960D+
RAM: 8 GB Crucial DDR3-1600
Video: Radeon HD 7700 (forget the manufacturer off hand)
OS: Windows 8.1 64 bit

Any ideas that you folks can give would be great as I'm out of them at this point.

Was hoping to avoid that but he's already gone ahead with a USB sound card. I just find it really odd for the audio input portion to stop working but the output works fine.
