Really stupid question - How do I find out the CPU temp?

Right now I'm in the middle of building a new computer, but this has never come up before. The case's LED temp display has sensors which are supposed to be placed on the harddrive and the other on the motherboard. But supposedly the motherboard I'm getting has two temperature sensors built into it.

Is there a way to check the CPU core temp from the OS?

Your last Q...yes, there are many programs that can access the sensors on your mobo...your BIOS should have it as well...Try Everest.
http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.php?pid=1&lang=en SpeedFan does this as well.
Your mobo will have several sensors that can be accessed via software pgrms. As for the thermal probes from your case...I would attach them to the HD and one in mid case location for case temps. Use the software to monitor the cpu/gpu/mobo. Just a suggestion and Welcome gamer to the Forums! :)

Believe me, I prefer AMDs. Intel can't do much right (besides the Pentium M) anymore. I can't wait for this new PC with flamethrower CPU to heat up my room. :D

You know, that is the only thing I really have against my machine. I really need to get an AC for the computer room...

You could use program called Speedfan. It can be used to change the speeds of fans connected to a motherboard but it is also a small, non-bloaty program which can read temperature sensors.

It will even sit in your tray, displaying the temperature sensor you want to read.. ie. CPU temp. Quite nice.

Last night I used Speedfan, and as soon as I opened it, my monitor buzzed and the screen shifted to the right and I had to correct it using the buttons.

And then when I shutdown my computer, my monitor didn't turn off. Instead, a white box about 80% the size of the screen is displayed... but my computer is OFF! I even tried unplugging the monitor cable. What the hell? How did this happen?

According to the folks over at GH speedfan is not being up-dated and if software like that
is needed to use Everest.

007, you have an Intel CPU on an Intel board. Go to Intel's homepage and download
Intel Active Monitor. It will sit in the tool tray and all it takes is a double click to bring it up.
Power,temp,system specs,alarms, it's all there and a small download.

If you have the CD that came with the MB it will be on it also.
The BIOS can also be flashed in Windows at Intel's site. I've up-dated my Intel BIOS
twice in three years and no problems(yet).

EDIT: OK i was mistaken and sit corrected by the post below. I like IAM,try it.

What version did you dnld? I had 4.25 go buggy on me. I use 4.26 now (which is fairly recent). 4.24 was fine for me as well. They are still updating SpeedFan. MBM they have stopped updating from what I have read. Just uninstall it and try a different version or if you want to avoid it all together use Everest.
*EDIT- or better yet, use what GY suggests for an Intel platform->IntelActiveMonitor. Cheers! ;)
