It does have 8 wires, but I thought it was 4 pairs of 2?

edit: Hence the name, twisted pair? Correct me if I'm wrong!

4 pairs of 2, but it only uses two pairs. (pins 1,2,3 and 6)

Do the advanced CAT5 specs use more of the wires? (for Gigabit Ethernet)

just for trivia's sake, does anyone know why they move that one wire over to #6 instead of leaving it at #4???????

yeah.
4 pairs of 2!(Orange Pair, Green Pair, Blue Pair and Brown Pair, all twisted pair)

EIA/TIA 568A Standard = Green Pair as #1,#2 and Orange Pair as #3,#6
EIA/TIA 568B Standard = Orange Pair as #1,#3 and Green Pair as #3,#6
Blue Pair and Brown Pair are not being used at all!
