Really stupid question about hookahs

Okay, so I was at a friend's tonight, he got this brand new hookah and I felt kinda bad turning him down so I took a couple hits with my other friends. Just curious, what exactly is IN a hookah? I know there's charcoal on top, ice and water in the bottom, but what exactly are you smoking?

apple was my favorite, followed by grape.

I've not smoked a hookah either, but I know what they are. With the right equipment, you can smoke any commonly-smoked substance in a hookah. Also, hash isn't tobacco.

Haha I wasn't upset. I just honestly don't know what it is. All I know is it looked kinda like dog sh1t and that's why my friend's dad wouldn't hit it with us.

Usually tabacoo. I know some people that have smoked weed with it though.

Its tabacco flavored with fruit in a molassis like sticky mixture. Its not just plain tabbaco, its not weed, its shisha. This stuff goes in the bowl part that the coals sit on.
